TYPES OF LOFT CONVERSIONS
What loft conversion is good for you?

	Velux Loft Conversion Likewise referred to as roof light conversions. Due to Velux's position as the industry's top manufacturer of roof windows, the name has come to be linked with this particular style of loft conversion. This style is popular and very affordable because it doesn't need planning clearance.
	Dormer To increase the amount of floor space and headroom in the loft, the current roof is extended to create a dormer. It will project from the existing roof, typically toward the back of the house, and can be made in a variety of designs to meet your needs. Instead of the typical sloped sides of a conversion, the interior will have a horizontal ceiling and vertical walls. Perfect for making the conversion provide the area you need when there is little headroom or available space.
	Mansard A mansard conversion, so named for the French architect who popularised it in the 17th century, makes the most of the loft's available space. As seen in the figure to the right, the top slope is nearly horizontal while the lower slope is nearly vertical.
	Hip to Gable The greatest conversion option for homes with hip roofs is a hip to gable loft conversion because there is typically insufficient inside room for a conversion. The gable wall will be extended until it is level with the hip line, at which point more roofing will be installed.
